Shannon Sandberg

I grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, lucky enough to grow up with horses—going on trail rides, taking riding lessons, including both Saddleseat and Dressage and riding in 4-H and Dressage shows. I now live in Plymouth, MN, with my husband, our three children (2 of whom are old enough to be taking riding lessons), and our dog. In addition to my passion for horses, I love to read, cook, and go camping with my family.

I have worked for public school districts in Minnesota and Northern California as a licensed School Psychologist since 2009, including special education programs for students with high social/emotional/behavioral needs, alternative education settings, and juvenile detention centers. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to provide counseling and teach social-emotional learning to students ages 5-21. My primary focus is emotional regulation, coping, and social skills, incorporating aspects from various disciplines, such as mindfulness, meditation, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, Zones of Regulation, interoception (the perception of sensations inside the body), and social stories. In California, I also got to bring my dog to work with me as a Licensed therapy dog; I am thrilled to be part of equine-assisted therapy now, as I’ve seen the magic of incorporating animals into counseling!
